Five Iranian Americans to Receive Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award

April 27, 2011, New York, NY Five highly accomplished Iranian Americans will be awarded the 2011 Ellis Island Medal of Honor on May 7th, 2011 for outstanding achievement in their personal and professional lives coupled with preservation of their culture and heritage and noteworthy citizenship to the United States.

Established in 1986 by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), the Ellis Island Medals of Honor annually pays tribute to the ancestry groups that comprise America's unique cultural mosaic.

Ross Mirkarimi the Next Sheriff in Town?

April 27, 2011, San Francisco, CA –The Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) and its connected PAC, the Iranian American Political Action Committee (IAPAC), recently had the opportunity to sit down with Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi and discuss his campaign for San Francisco Sheriff. If successful, Mirkarimi would make history by becoming the first American of Iranian descent to be elected Sheriff in the United States.

Mirkarimi was elected San Francisco District 5 Supervisor in 2004, and re-elected in 2008 with 77 percent of the vote. He has authored over 80 ordinances that have had both citywide and national impact. Apart from his reputation for sponsoring cutting-edge laws, Mirkarimi is also well known for his 24/7 focus on issues that chronically challenge his district and the City.

Ramin Asgard, Featured Guest at PAAIA Iranian American Capitol Hill and Administration Staff Reception

April 26, 2011, Washington, D.C. – On April 21, 2011 the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) held its annual reception for Iranian Americans who work for members of Congress and the Executive Branch.  The event, held at PAAIA's headquarters, also marked the launch of the PAAIA NexGen Chapter in Washington, D.C.  Over 50 guests including Iranian Americans working for government consulting firms and nonprofit organizations were in attendance and able to mingle and network with one another in an intimate setting.

The featured guest at the reception was Ramin Asgard, Director of Voice of America–Persian News Network.   Asgard is currently the highest ranking Iranian American career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State.

2011 Mentorship Program Relaunch

As a benefit to our members and as a cornerstone of our mission to empower the Iranian American community across the United States, the Public Affairs Alliance of Iranian Americans (PAAIA) is pleased to announce our Second Annual Mentorship Program. PAAIA's mentorship program provides the opportunity for Iranian Americans to receive one-on-one guidance from highly accomplished professionals within the Iranian American community. Application process for the 2011 Mentorship Program began Friday, April 15, 2011.
