Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra
Today is 35th day of Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra and the Yatra started from village Habri, District Kethal on 24thJuly 2014. The Yatra was welcomed by the villagers. The Yatra organised a meeting with about 30 people and gave introduction about NACDOR and The Yatra discussed about the ongoing violence and atrocities against Dalits particularly Dalit women. The Yatra was supported by the People and demand speedy action on the violence cases. The men and women both were actively participating in the discussion and expressed their aggression on this increasing number of atrocities against women.
Dalits are facing continuous violence, harassment and atrocities in Haryana especially Dalit women and children. Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra team started its journey to unite and mobilise Dalits and Backwards in Haryana to fight against the increasing number of atrocities against the Dalits and other backward castes. By doing this, NACDOR has decided to build up a movement and organise meeting after meeting in Haryana to remind our people and those who are sympathetic to our cause that oppressors never give up willingly.
The Yatra walked towards village Paai, District Kethal. The Yatra marched from one basti to another with the slogans Baba Sahib Amar Rahe, Dalito pe Atyachar Band Karo.The Yatra was supported by the people in the villages as the Yatra move from one place to another more and more people are joining the Yatra. The people also share their experiences, how they are discriminated and oppressed by the upper caste people. The Yatra also visited individual families also. They all are demanding setting up of a Judicial Commission of enquiry on all atrocities happened in last five years and speedy justice to the victims of atrocities. They all want that the atrocities that are happening now days against Dalit should come to the notice of the government and strict action should be taken against the perpetrators.
The Yatra reached to Village Teotha and had a meeting with the community people. The discussion was very interactive and the women were very active while discussing all these issues. The importance of girl child education and the rights and entitlement related to the women issues were also discussed in the meetings. They supported the Yatra and encouraged NACDOR to conduct such kind of meetings and organised these Yatra to create awareness among the people as most of our community members are not aware about their rights and entitlement. They appreciated the initiatives taken by NACDOR and ensure they will also support the Yatra in future also. They also ensured to reach on 9th August Jan Akrosh rally at Chandigarh.
Sh. Hukam Chand ji addressed the meeting in the village and shared that the loss of faith in the state machinery and increasing intolerance of their abusive treatment has led many Dalit communities into movements to claim their rights. NACDOR has also decided to build up a movement and organise meeting after meeting in Haryana to remind the people and those who are sympathetic to the cause that oppressors never give up willingly. Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra has given voices to the Dalits and instils confidence among them who otherwise remain mute even when they face atrocities. At all places, the Yatra is getting huge support from the villagers and insisting for the regular programmes and visits in their villages.
It is the first time in Haryana since its formation in 1966 that a state wide Dalit Mobilisation is taking place. Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra has instilled confidence among the Dalits, who otherwise remain mute even when they face atrocities. At all places, the Yatra is getting huge support from the villagers and insisting for the regular programmes and visits in their villages. The Yatra is also getting financial support from the villagers. The Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra will cover more than 22 districts in Haryana before it's culmination in Chandigarhon 9th August 2014. Dalit Jan Akrosh Yatra was started from Palwal district on 22nd June 2014 and would culminate with a Dalit Jan Akrosh Rally in Chandigarh. The Yatra is expecting a huge number of people in this rally about 5000 people from different districts of Haryana.
