THE ROLE OF ANGANWADI CENTRE IN REDUCING MATERNAL AND INFANT MORTALITY RATE LOADED

Kulpi (24-Parganas-S), October 31, 2010.

Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) Scheme has been playing an important role in reducing the maternal and infant mortality rate and for this the role of Anganwadi Centre has to be loaded. This opinion was expressed at a seminar at Kulpi, South 24-Parganas yesterday. The Seminar was organized as part of the ongoing Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign at Kulpi Janapriya High School (HS). Shri Utpal Bikash Pradhan, ACDPO said that the main objective of the Anganwadi Centres include reducing the maternal and infant mortality rates creating awareness about diseases, and imparting elementary education to children. He said that out of 362 Anganwadi Centres in Kulpi Block, 318 are operational at present. He also called for removing misconception regarding the quality of food served in the Anganwadi Centres. He said that the purpose of serving food by the Anganwadi Centres is to supplement nutrition and not to provide full fledged meal. He advised people to have locally available food at cheap prices rather than going for costly food items.
