PROPER MONITORING OF SARVA SHIKSHYA ABHIYAN FUND NECESSARY FOR ITS SUCCESS

Kulpi (24-Parganas-S), October 31, 2010.

Strict monitoring of the utilization of Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan (SSA) is necessary for its success. The speakers at a seminar in Kulpi on SSA and Mid-day Meal Scheme held this opinion yesterday. The seminar was organized as part of ongoing Bharat Nirman Public information Campaign at Kulpi Janapriya High School (HS), South 24-Parganas. Ohidujjaman Baidya, Member Zilla Parishad, South 24-Parganas said that due to lack of proper monitoring, funds earmarked for SSA are not being utilized and the desired results are not obtained. Due to lack of proper infrastructure and monitoring, even funds sanctioned under SSA could not be utilized and the physical infrastructure in the schools could not be created or improved, he added. He called for formulating concrete plan of action to utilize these funds in an expeditious manner so that the physical infrastructure in the schools can be improved and SSA can achieve its objective in the districts.

Shri Pradyut Kumar Mondal, Karmadhyaksha, Kulpi Panchayat Samity called upon the guardians to send their children to schools by removing different misgivings about the Mid-day Meal Scheme. He said that often some misconceptions and wrong notions are created about the scheme without keeping in view of its twin objectives. The Mid-day Meal Scheme on the one hand aims at ensuring nutrition of students with provision of food and reducing the number of school dropouts, on the other, Shri Mondal said. He also informed that out of 270 primary schools in Kulpi Block, 254 schools have already brought under the Mid-day Meal Scheme. Work has started to introduce the scheme in the secondary and the higher secondary schools in the Block. He urged all concerned to point out the problems involved and extend active cooperation to remove these problems.
