RESCUE OF CHILD LABOURERS WILL BE MEANINGLESS WITHOUT STRENGTHING THE FORMAL EDUCATION SYSTEM – Rescue of 150 child labourers on 18 June 20111 from textile units in Jaipur is of course a welcome step as it sends a message to those greedy employers who do not feel shame in exploiting kids and thereby depriving them of the right to enjoy childhood. However, in order to prevent recycling of these rescued kids as child labourers again, it is a must for the government to ensure that these kids are not only brought in the mainstream education system but are also retained therein.

In a series of raids on Saturday, the city police rescued more than 150 children employed as labourers in small textile units in Shastri Nagar and Hasanpura localities of the Pink City. HT reports.
