DEFENCE MoUs WITH SOUTH KOREA WILL OPEN UP NEW VISTAS OF COOPERATION: ANTONY

The Defence Minister Shri AK Antony has described his two-day visit to South Korea as 'fruitful'. Speaking at a luncheon, hosted in his honour by the South Korean Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Kim Sung-Chan at Jinhae Naval Base on Saturday, his last engagement in South Korea before returning to New Delhi, Shri Antony said, the Defence MoUs signed by the two countries during his visit have opened up new vistas of cooperation. Describing the MoUs as the 'starting point', Shri Antony said these  have the potential to build on the strengths of the two countries in numerous fields and to help in achieving peace and stability in not only the Asia-Pacific but also in the Indian Ocean region.

 

The Indian Defence Minister visited several defence establishments of South Korea before flying back to New Delhi. He visited the 3rd Training Wing of the Korean Air Force where the Chief of the Air Staff General Lee Kae-Hoon gave him a detailed brief on training. Shri Antony was also given an experience of the Flight Simulator, which is used to train young fighter pilots.

 

Shri Antony visited the Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) assembly line at Sacheon. KAI is the South Korean national aerospace company established in 1999 with the consolidation of Samsung Aerospace, Daewoo Heavy Industries, and Hyundai Space and Aircraft Company (HYSA). It manufactures civil and military aircraft and satellites.

 

Shri Antony also witnessed an amazing display of the aerobatic skills of The Black Eagles Team of the Korean Air Force, flying eight T-50 Golden Eagle aircraft. The Defence Minister later visited a Destroyer of the Korean Navy.

Finance Minister inaugurates Credit Delivery Camp

Kolkata: Monday, September 06, 2010.

 

Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon'ble Union Finance Minister inaugurated a Credit Delivery Camp organized by United Bank of India at Debkundu, Beldanga in Murshidabad District on Sunday. On the occasion, loans for a total amount of  Rs.18.65 crores  were sanctioned  which include 1100  Kisan Credit Cards, 264 nos. of SHGs, 471 nos. of DRI loan,321 nos of loan to Micro and Small Enterprises and 20 nos. of Housing Loan. Hon'ble Finance Minister handed over sanction letters to some of the beneficiaries.  The beneficiaries included Small & Marginal Farmers, entrepreneurs belonging to SC & ST, Minority Community, Women & SHGs. The Bank had sanctioned Rs. 5000 to a physically challenged person, and the Bank also gave a wheel chair to another physically challenged person.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mukherjee appreciated the efforts of United Bank of India in accelerating the flow of credit to different priority areas of the government. He expressed hope that Bank would maintain the pace in future.  Agriculture being the main stay of rural economy, he desired that more bank finance should flow to the sector and expressed his happiness over the endeavour made by United Bank of India by providing financial assistance to a large number of poor beneficiaries under KCC,  DRI, Housing and MSE schemes.  Shri Mukherjee, during his speech, appealed to the borrowers for timely repayment of bank loans so that banks can recycle the funds for further productive purpose.  He appreciated United Bank of India for opening the first floating mobile branch in Sunderbans and the lead taken by the bank for opening its first RRB in West Bengal, the erstwhile Gaur Gramin Bank, covering the districts of Malda and Murshidabad. FM also complimented the Bank for serving the society in remote/hardship areas like Manipur.

 

Shri Bhaskar Sen, Chairman & Managing Director, in his welcome address presented a historical perspective of the bank's origin and highlighted its strong presence in the East and North Eastern parts of the country.  While giving details of the bank's performance, Shri Sen also referred to the future plans with regard to business growth, technology, financing to agriculture, inclusive growth, etc.  Referring to the financial inclusion plan, Shri Sen mentioned that Bank is set to spread its wings to 4341 un-banked villages by March 2012. Branches will be opened in 45 villages and the remaining villages will be covered by ICT solution through Business correspondent Model. Shri Sen stated that the Bank is also serving by means of its 4 sponsored RRBss, namely as Assam Gramin Vikash Bank (at Assam), Tripura Gramin Bank( at Tripura), Manipur Rural Bank(at Manipur) and Bangiya Gramin Vikash (at West Bengal).

 

Shri Sen further mentioned that the Bank had recently received National Award -2010 for being the 2nd best Bank in the country in financing MSE sector and also for securing top position in financing PMEGP in both Eastern and North Eastern Zone of the country.

 

Shri S. L. Bansal, Executive Director, United Bank of India, presented Vote of Thanks to all the dignitaries and others and assured the Hon'ble Union Finance Minister and other dignitaries that the bank would organize more such Camps throughout the country, in the days to come.
